From living in a tent to securing stable housing: Veteran thrives with VA assistance

On an ordinary day in 2010, Marine Corps Veteran Robert McMahon returned from a fishing trip to find his house completely boarded up and already in foreclosure. The next thing he knew, he was living in a tent near the Chicago River, where he remained for close to three years. At the time, McMahon was coping with various medical conditions, but he was determined to get back on his feet. After a fellow Marine Veteran recommended he visit the Edward Hines, Jr. VA Hospital for assistance, McMahon quickly went to the VA medical center for help.

Navy Veteran Ken Casanega is today's Veteran of the day.

On his 100th birthday, today’s #VeteranOfTheDay is Navy Veteran Ken Casanega, who turned down an NFL offer to become an aviator during World War II.

Providing vaccinations to Veterans in Nebraska and Western Iowa was a community effort from many organizations. One Veteran was so grateful, he sent a rose to every member of VA clinic staff.

SAH changes to help more Veterans.

SAH grants assistance to the most seriously disabled service members and Veterans to pay for life-changing and independence-enhancing modifications and adaptations to their homes and residences. New changes to the laws that govern the administration of the SAH program offer an even greater opportunity for VA to fund these adaptations.
